To be sure look down the forum until you find hartman's orginal post. He had access to a plasma arc cutter and wire feed welder when he did his. A skilled hand with a oxygen/acetylene cutting torch can cut the end out and weld the new cap back in. I don't remember him writing about the glass matting in the end can, I thougt he just ran a new larger pipe from that last baffle hole in the muffler. If you go with the packing, I'd use an end cap retained with pop rivets so it can be repacked if needed. If you think about how a superTrapp works to control the sound, less discs (baffles) = smaller outlet size = less sound. I'm sure Suzuki or their muffler manufacturer carefully engineers that last section for sound control and to some degree emission control as it effects the final air/fuel ratio the engine gets.
